Strain wave technology in a compact housing, the AM5 Harmonic Drive System<\/h2>\n

With the ZWO AM5 Harmonic equatorial mount, ZWO offers a transportable mount for astrophotography. The mount weighs less than 6 kg and carries telescopes up to 13 kg without counterweight. With counterweight and the counterweight rod (not included), the mount can even support telescopes up to 20 kg. Several years of development and several patents have gone into this exciting mount.<\/p>\n

Smooth tracking is guaranteed<\/h3>\n

ZWO verifies and measures each AM5 assembly before delivery and guarantees a periodic error (“PE”) of less than +\/- 20 arc seconds. The periodic error occurs very slowly, so that the autoguider has enough time to correct it. Of course, the mount has an ST-4 autoguiding interface. The possibility exists that PE can also be reduced electronically via the ASIAIR<\/a> or other software.<\/p>\n

Many features and easy operation with the ZWO AM5 Harmonic Equatorial Mount<\/h3>\n

The AM5 can be used in equatorial or azimuth mode. For astrophotography, the equatorial mode is used. For accurate operation of the AM5, a pure pole star alignment is desirable. For visual observation of the moon and planets or photography of these objects, the alt-azimuth mode is sufficient. The holder is then ready for use within a few minutes. The status indicator always shows which mode the mount is in: red stands for equatorial mode and green for alt-azimuth mode.<\/p>\n

No counterweight required for a load of up to 13kg!<\/h3>\n

Normally, German equatorial mounts require counterweights to balance the weight of the telescope. This is the only way to ensure proper operation. The AM5 uses a harmonic drive from the robotics industry, no counterweights are required up to a telescope weight of 13 kg. This makes the AM5 lighter, more compact and easier to operate. Only for heavier telescopes we recommend counterweights to balance the mount and tripod.<\/p>\n
